Make a purchase-ready measurement record
Store the original value, unit, reference points and source of each dimension. Keep measured, manufacturer-listed and assumed values visibly different.

Record the provenance of the dimension
A purchase-ready record says what was measured, which endpoints were used, the unit and whether the value was observed, published or assumed. These categories are not interchangeable. A manufacturer’s overall dimension, your measured opening and a hypothetical allowance can all appear in one comparison without describing the same thing.
Label each entry at the time it is recorded. Keep the original value and source rather than copying a rounded number through several notes until its origin is lost. The goal is a comparison another person can understand, not the appearance of precision created by a neat spreadsheet.
Bosch UK measuring device range ?

Give every axis its own reference
In an expressly hypothetical record, width might be 1000 mm between two named sides, depth 400 mm from a stated front reference to a back reference, and height 750 mm between separately stated points. These values are invented examples, not measurements of a room, tool or object in the photographs.
The numbers become useful only with the references. Outside width and usable internal width can differ, and the depth available for ordinary access can be a different question again. Do not silently compare unlike dimensions merely because they are written in the same unit or occupy the same column.

Keep conversion separate from measurement quality
A conversion changes the unit used to express a value. It does not improve the original measuring tool, the reading or the chosen reference points. More decimal places in a calculation cannot establish an accuracy that the underlying observation did not have.
Keep both the original and converted value, with rounding clearly identified. If a small difference controls the purchase decision, revisit the document, reference and uncertainty rather than choosing the most favourable rounded display. Our length converter performs arithmetic and deliberately makes no claim about the reliability or fit of the entered dimension.

Use the right kind of measuring information
Length, level and squareness are different properties. A record from a tape or rule does not by itself establish either of the others. When the proposed product or task needs another geometric condition, keep that as a distinct question with its appropriate evidence.
The archival photographs here show different length-measuring forms rather than a demonstration of a measurement. They do not certify a calibration or a purchase fit. A product’s stated accuracy or range should remain attached to its exact model and conditions instead of being transferred to an old example because the tools look similar.

Send a record that makes the unresolved question answerable
Attach the exact product identifier and the relevant manufacturer drawing to the dimensional record. State which dimension or condition remains uncertain and preserve the date and source of the information already obtained. A consistent enquiry is easier to check than a cropped photograph with a bare number written over it.
Save any clarification with the original notes. Do not discard a qualification when updating the comparison. This worksheet supports a purchasing decision; it does not approve structural support, machine installation, workholding, an operating clearance or any other safety-critical use that requires a fuller assessment.
